The City of Fargo, N.D., is considering converting its refuse and bus fleet to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) and using landfill gas to fuel these vehicles, Inforum reported.

The city already uses landfill gas to generate power and heat, but it has excess gas. The city’s 115 buses, garbage trucks, and police cars use 1,118 gallons of fuel per day.

Staff recommends starting with equipment for refining the gas and adding fueling stations and other equipment at a later date, according to Inforum.
