GM Receives Orders for More than 1,700 Hybrid Buses

January 22, 2008

General Motors announced it has received orders for more than 1,700 hybrid buses from transit agencies in Washington, Philadelphia and Minneapolis/St. Paul. The 1,732 buses will save an estimated 2.4 million gallons of fuel annually, GM announced at the Washington Auto Show.

Indianapolis-based Allison Transmission Inc. is GM's partner on the project, the AP reported. The new deliveries will nearly triple GM's current fleet of almost 1,000 hybrid buses. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority ordered 952 buses, while the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority ordered 480. The Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro Transit plans to purchase up to 300 hybrid buses.
