More than 16,000 of the electric cars are at risk for shutting down propulsion because of a software glitch.
A glitch in the software may cause a misreading of motor-generated torque levels, causing the car to mistakenly shift into neutral.
The recall, set to begin May 15, includes electric cars in the 2013-2015 model years. A software update will resolve the problem.
