The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is testing a Kia Niro plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) to explore the use of electric cars in its fleet, reports WECT.

For the past two months, the Kia Niro is being used by the utility's water sampling division, where drivers travel on predictable routes each week. The results of this pilot program will help the utility make future electrification decisions.

In total, the utility owns about 120 to 150 units, spanning from passenger sedans to large vacuum trucks.
