Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling an estimated 14,215 2019 RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid compact SUVs because the backup camera may not function when the vehicle is in reverse due to a damaged electrical connector.

If the backup camera does not activate and the driver fails to check his or her surroundings while reversing, there is an increased likelihood of a collision.

To remedy the matter, Toyota will notify owners and dealers will inspect the backup camera system and replace the audio display unit, if needed, at no cost to owners.

Owners can reach Toyota customer service at (888) 270-9371. The recall begins Sept. 23. Toyota's reference number for this recall is K0N.
