Reducing idling has allowed Ventura County, Calif., to reduce its fuel costs by $160,000 per year, in addition to reducing emissions, VC Star reported.

The most effective method to reduce idling was using telematics to determine which vehicles idled the most, then e-mailing department heads detailing the cost savings and environmental benefits of idling. Staff members also educated fleet drivers about the costs of idling.
