Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has awarded the contract for a key component of its plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler that's expected to arrive in 2020 as one of more than 30 FCA nameplates with electrified power by 2022, FCA has announced.
The Wrangler PHEV will source its power electronics module from the Toledo Machining Plant, which is near FCA's Toledo Assembly Complex where the vehicle will be built. The module houses the power inverter module and integrated dual charger module, which includes an on-board charger and DC/DC converter. The plant will also assemble the sub-systems for the module, upload the software, and conduct final testing on the coolant and electrical systems.
The 850 employees at the plant now produce steering columns and torque converters for FCA production locations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
