Porsche showed a concept version of its first battery-electric sedan called the Mission E at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt that would be aimed at the same audience of buyers of Tesla's Model S.
The Mission E would provide 600 hp with a more-than-500-kilometer range (about 300 miles). The extended range is possible because Porsche is the first automaker to use 800-volt technology in a vehicle. The vehicle will have the latest lithium-ion battery technology.
The prestige luxury sedan would offer all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering with a nearly 0-60 mph accelleration of "under 3.5 seconds," according to Porsche.
The Mission E is powered by two permanent magnet synchronous electric motors similar to the system used in the Porsche 919 hybrid. You charge the car by moving a body segment on the front left wing.
Additionally, the dashboard has two three-dimentional structural layers. The upper layer integrates the driver's display. Porsche has placed a holographic display between the levels that extends far into the passenger's side. It shows individually selectable apps that are stacked in virtual space and arranged by priority with a three-dimensional effect.
The driver or passenger can use these apps for touch-free control primary functions such as media, navigation, climate control, contacts and vehicle. The desired symbol is activated by gestures that are detected by sensors.
