The Nissan LEAF set a new electric vehicle record for the most sold EVs in the U.S.

Although 2014 isn’t over yet, the current sale of LEAFs has surpassed the 22,610 units sold in 2013.

LEAF sales in 2014 through September are up by more than 36 percent compared to the same period last year. The company will announce the October U.S. sales on Nov. 3.

Since the introduction of the vehicle in 2010, there has been 142,000 LEAF sold globally. Out of those global sales 45 percent come from the U.S. market.

“With nearly 20 electric cars or plug-in hybrid models on the road today, Nissan LEAF remains at the head of the class, outselling the nearest competitor by 50% through September,” stated Brendan Jones, the director of Nissan EV Sales and Infrastructure.
