The Nissan LEAF has become the top-selling battery-electric vehicle in automotive history, the automaker announced this week.

The LEAF has reached global sales of more than 100,000 vehicles and U.S. sales approaching 50,000 vehicles since its introduction in late 2010 as a 2011 model-year vehicle.

The zero-emissions LEAF has saved owners in 35 countries more than $28 million in gasoline costs, according to Nissan.
