General Motors is developing a compact car similar to the battery-electric Chevrolet Volt that will go 200 miles on a single charge and carry a generator, reports Businessweek.

The increased electric range is due to advances in battery chemistry, outgoing CEO Dan Akerson told the publication. The GM vehicle will be similar to the Volt with a generator that could run on gas, diesel, or natural gas.

GM plans to introduce the model in 2016 for about $30,000.
