Honda may consider bringing the Japan-only Fit Hybrid to the U.S. market, the automaker's chief engineer told a group of journalists.

Art St. Cyr said the company "may reevaluate in the future" bringing the subcompact car, which gets 86 miles to the gallon, to the U.S. market. At this point, Honda only has plans to introduce the gasoline-powered 2015 Fit into the U.S. is the spring, reports AutoblogGreen.

The most fuel efficient Honda Fit now offered in the U.S. gets 31 mpg combined, including 28 in the city and 35 on the highway.
