The vehicle, dubbed the Schluckspecht E, shattered the previous record of 373 miles, set by the Japan Electric Vehicle Club in 2010.

The new record was set at the Bosch test track in Boxberg. The car, which features lightweight materials and an aerodynamic design, ran on 14 lithium-cobalt batteries. The record-setting drive took over 36 hours. Four drivers took turns behind the wheel.

The university team developed the vehicle in collaboration with Frauenhofter Institute.
