CHICAGO - The city of Chicago has signed a $1.9 million contract with 350Green LLC for the installation of 280 electric vehicle charging stations by the end of this year, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Based in San Diego, 350Green is an EV charging network developer.

The charging stations will include fast chargers of 480 volts and Level 2 chargers of 240 volts. The company will operate the chargers at 73 different sites, including O'Hare and Midway airports and local shopping center parking lots.

350Green is expected to spend $8.77 million in upfront costs and receive $1.9 million of that back from the city in grant money derived from federal stimulus funds. The company will not share revenue with the city or state.
