MOLINE, IL - Fleet manager J.D. Schulte and his staff were honored by City of Moline Committee-of-the-Whole on Tuesday for their No. 10 ranking of top public sector fleets, announced at the recent Government Fleet Expo & Conference in Austin, Texas. Moline's fleet department was one of 100 honored.

Schulte said the recognition has nothing to do with the vehicles in a city's fleet or how nice they are, according to Quad-Cities Online. Instead, cities are ranked on resource stewardship, staff development, efficiency, doing things right the first time, performance recognition, a high-trust culture, creativity, collaboration, accountability, and the use of technology and information.

Moline has 12 hybrid vehicles, and all of its diesel units run on biodiesel. State officials have declared it an Illinois Green Fleet, with the shop practicing recycling techniques for everything from oil filters to parts cleaning solvents.

Staffers strive to have 90 percent of all work orders turned around in one day, Schulte said. The fleet division functions in a paperless manner, he said, with all employees contributing to its success, reported Quad-Cities Online.
