SIOUX FALLS, SD - An executive with South Dakota-based ethanol producer POET is set to detail breakthroughs in cellulosic ethanol technology at the Sino-US Advanced Biofuels Forum in Beijing on Thursday, May 27.

POET Senior Vice President of Science and Technology Mark Stowers is scheduled to join top officials in government and science, including U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu and China's Director of the National Energy Administration Zhang Guobao. Industry experts and university leaders in biofuels will also attend.

Stowers will discuss POET's work in commercializing cellulosic ethanol made from corn cobs and high-cut material. He will also discuss the overall state of the cellulosic ethanol industry.

Project Liberty is a planned 25 million-gallon-per-year cellulosic ethanol plant in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The plant will be co-located with POET's existing 55 million-gallon-per-year grain ethanol plant at the site. Construction will begin this summer. POET also currently operates a pilot-scale plant in Scotland, S.D. POET has spent more than $40 million in cellulosic ethanol research over the past 10 years.
