FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA - Hyundai is now developing a new hybrid-only vehicle aimed at competing directly with the Toyota Prius, according to a HybridCars.com report.

The Web site quoted Miles Johnson, the company's product public relations manager, as saying that the vehicle's production date was ahead of the Hyundai Blue Will plug-in hybrid concept. But he declined to give a specific production date.

Last year, Automotive News reported that the four-door Blue Will plug-in is expected to launch in the U.S. in late 2012.

During his interview with HybridCars.com, Johnson stressed that hybrid vehicles take longer to develop than standard cars. But he added that Hyundai has some good partners on the new hybrid project, including battery maker LG Chem.
