SANTA ROSA, CA - The United States Postal Service (USPS) has awarded Bay Area electric car pioneer ZAP an engineering prototype contract for the design and development of an electric mail truck.

U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey is scheduled to tour ZAP's electric vehicle facility in Santa Rosa on Feb. 16 to learn more about how this federal program is creating local jobs.

USPS is studying the reduction of fuel consumption through a feasibility study of electric mail trucks. Federal legislation would convert 20,000 mail trucks to run on electricity.
