DALLAS --- Reddy Ice Holdings, a major manufacturer and distributor of ice in the U.S., recently purchased 17 Ford Transit Connect vans. The purchase is part of an ongoing effort to replace some gas-guzzling cargo vans in the company's 250-vehicle fleet with greener alternatives.

Reddy Ice Holdings' technicians will drive the Transit Connects to service and maintain the company's Ice Factory product, a stand-alone machine that dispenses packaged ice. There are several thousand Ice Factory machines located throughout the country.

Ice Factory service technicians rack up between 25,000 and 50,000 miles annually on each vehicle, said Lee Hatch, Reddy Ice corporate fleet manager.

The Transit Connect's fuel efficiency rating is 22 mpg city, 25 mpg highway.
