SPARTANBURG, SC - Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright has returned his office's vehicles to the county's fleet maintenance department for service and repairs after using an outside vendor for five years, according to The Herald-Journal.

Wright's office completed its transition of the 300-plus county vehicles Aug. 31, Johnnie Lewis, head of the fleet maintenance department, told the Journal. County Administrator Glenn Breed said the move would save taxpayers about $300,000 a year.

The Journal said the sheriff's office was the only county department that did not use the fleet maintenance department for vehicle service.

Wright said that he took the department's vehicles to an outside vendor because the county maintenance shop couldn't handle the high volume, but decided to bring the vehicles back to the county for service after the S.C. Sheriff's Association recommended he follow the procurement code, reported the Journal.
