DEFOREST, WI --- Citing the economy, Sanimax Energy said it is temporarily shutting down the biodiesel production facilities at the company's plant in DeForest.

No reopening date has been announced for the biodiesel facilities.

Sanimax began building its 15,000-square-foot plant in 2006. In May 2007, the company sold its first major load of fuel to Progressive Farmers Cooperative in northeast Wisconsin.

Nova Biosource Fuels developed the multi-feedstock technology that Sanimax has used to produce biodiesel fuel from recycled cooking grease, animal fats and vegetable oils.
