TOKYO, JAPAN --- The Nikkei newspaper in Japan reported on March 22 that Nissan Motor Co. plans to release a high-end hybrid car in Japan and the U.S. in 2010.

The newspaper report indicated that the vehicle will be based on the luxury Fuga sedan, known as the Infiniti M in the U.S. In addition, Nissan is reportedly aiming for a fuel efficiency of more than 16 kilometers per liter (38 miles per gallon).

Nissan had earlier indicated plans to sell an electric car in Japan and the U.S. in fiscal 2010.
