SONOMA, CA – The City of Sonoma has set its greenhouse gas emissions goals, including a 37-percent GHG reduction over year-2000 levels by 2010. In that baseline year, the City of Sonoma’s municipal activities produced 659 tons of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gasses.

The reduction goal was part of a countywide commitment, joined by nine cities and the county government, to adopt a precedent-setting plan that could become a model for America, according to the Sonoma News.

Vehicle travel accounts for 67 percent of county GHG emissions.
