IRVINE, CA -- Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. -- a leader in natural gas, hydrogen and hybrid electric vehicle technologies -- announced it has received new purchase orders totaling $750,000 for its ultra-lightweight composite high-pressure compressed natural gas (CNG) storage tanks for applications in heavy-duty and light-duty fleet vehicles.
"We are excited about this expanding CNG order flow and the prospects for our CNG business,” said Alan Niedzwiecki, president and CEO of Quantum. “We believe that revenues from the sale of CNG tanks will more than double in 2012 and, combined with the expected Fisker Karma production ramp, we are forecasting 2012 to be a year defined by significant revenue growth."
In other company news, the company also announced it was awarded an engineering development contract from Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. to develop hydrogen systems for a mini-bus platform. Under this contract, Quantum will engineer and modify Mahindra's 2.5L engine to run on clean hydrogen, while improving vehicle performance characteristics through enhanced electronic control software strategies and engine calibration. Quantum will supply its ultra-lightweight hydrogen storage system and proprietary hydrogen fuel injection system for this application.
The program involves design, development and testing of a prototype hydrogen internal combustion engine suitable for commercial vehicle application and integration of a lightweight fuel storage system. Quantum will define and implement engine electronic control strategy, and perform emission, performance and durability testing of the hydrogen fuel system at a Quantum facility in Lake Forest, Calif.
