A new bill signed into law in Texas is expected to reduce emissions from the state fleet.

Under the Texas Fuels bill, state agencies with 15 or more state-owned vehicles will need to purchase vehicles that run on compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ethanol or methanol blends, biodiesel, hydrogen fuel cells, or electricity. Law enforcement and emergency vehicles are exempt from the law.

The new law will go into effect in the next few months, and some vehicle purchases will be funded through the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan, reports News West 9. The State of Texas produces and consumes the most natural gas in the country, and this law is expected to create jobs in natural gas drilling and production.
