Toyota has received over 600 order requests for its Mirai hydrogen fuel cell sedan since requesting availability began July 20, according to a company spokesperson.

Indivduals who placed requests for the Mirai will be contacted by a Toyota representative to make sure that they live close to hydrogen refueling stations and that the vehicle "meets their driving needs," said company spokeswoman Jana Hartline.

The Mirai will go on sale at eight Toyota dealers in California in October. Toyota is selling the four-door sedan at a starting price of $57,000, and will also offer the Mirai on a three-year lease for $499 per month.

Toyota has a U.S. sales target of 3,000 Mirai vehicles from 2015 through the end of 2017, according to Hartline.
