Tesla Motors plans to introduce at least two affordable models in its Model 3 line in early 2017, including a sedan and compact utility, the company's chief technical officer has announced.

While speaking at the EIA Energy Conference in Washington DC, JP Straubel also said the company is looking at additional future vehicles, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Tesla appears on track to launch its Model X SUV later this year to help it boost sales. Vehicles in the Model 3 lineup are expected to cost about $35,000 and offer 200 miles of driving range.
