Volvo will offer a plug-in hybrid electric model of its XC90 flagship luxury SUV that's expected to generate 400 horsepower, the automaker has announced.

The XC90, which is being redesigned for 2015, will arrive with five engine options, including two gasoline engines and two diesel options. The XC90 PHEV will carry the T8 badge and Volvo's "Twin Engine" nomenclature. The SUV's 2.0L four-cylinder engine utilizes a supercharger and turbocharging on the Drive-E platform.

The XC90's pair of four-cylinder gasoline engines include the T6 turbo engine with supercharger that provides 320 hp and the T5 that provides 254 hp. The pair of diesel engines offered include the D5 twin-turbo that provides 225 hp and the D4 turbo diesel that provides 190 hp.
