AVON LAKE, OH – The city of Avon Lake, Ohio, is exploring the possibility of integrating compressed natural gas- and propane-powered vehicles into its fleet in order to cut fuel costs, the Morning Journal reported.

In particular, the city is considering the conversion of some police vehicles to propane and some diesel-powered city vehicles to bi-fuel CNG-gasoline systems, City Councilwoman Jennifer Fenderbosch told the newspaper.

Diesel-powered fleet vehicles that are candidates for the switch include snowplows and dump trucks.
Locally based engineering firm JGD Associates is assisting in the effort.
