INDIANAPOLIS – The city of Indianapolis is using $318,300 in grant funds from the Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program and the Indiana Office of Energy Development to take a number of fleet-greening measures.

These efforts include retrofitting eight Department of Public Works Ford F-150 trucks with dedicated propane systems, converting 11 Sheriff’s Department vans to bi-fuel propane systems, and purchasing 25 2011 model-year Ford Fusion Hybrids.

In addition, the city has received five electric vehicles through a partnership with EV maker THINK USA and the Greater Indiana Clean Cities Coalition.

“Our addition of efficient vehicles to the city’s fleet will result in a more economical and cleaner environment,” said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.
