TAMPA, FL – The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) in Tampa, Fla., said it has won a $2.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to add a new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station at HART’s maintenance facility.

This is the first step in HART’s effort to transition the agency’s van and bus fleets from diesel to CNG. A preliminary timeline calls for design and construction in 2012. The CNG station is expected to be operational in 2013.

HART provides public transit service for Tampa, Clearwater, Ybor City, Macdill, Temple Terrace, and Tampa International Airport.
