INDIANAPOLIS – Republic Services Inc. announced plans to build a natural gas fueling station in Indianapolis and add 60 natural gas vehicles to its fleet there in 2012.

Republic Services provides recycling and solid waste collection, transfer and disposal services in the United States and Puerto Rico. The company provides waste and recycling services to more than 800,000 customers in Indiana.

“Natural gas continues to play an increasingly important role in the U.S. transportation market,” said Kevin Walbridge, executive vice president of operations for Republic Services. “With its relatively low cost per gallon equivalent and its clean-burning properties, natural gas offers a favorable solution for fleet managers who are trying to manage operating costs.”

Republic Services is adding more natural gas vehicles to its fleet each year. Currently, Republic operates more than 700 natural gas-powered collection vehicles.
