HOPEWELL, VA - Osage Bio Energy is nearing completion of the country's first major barley-based ethanol and protein feed production facility. The plant's ethanol will be used as a blend in gasoline fuel, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

The facility, called Appomattox Bio Energy, is under construction in Hopewell. When the ethanol plant eventually reaches full capacity, it will use 30 million bushels of barley annually to produce about 65 million gallons of ethanol.

Appomattox Bio Energy will begin producing ethanol product by the end of July, the company said.
