DETROIT --- Chrysler Group LLC is set to debut a battery-powered prototype version of the Fiat 500 subcompact at the North American International Auto Show, Bloomberg news service has reported.

It's unknown, however, whether Chrysler plans to put the car into production, reported Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources.

Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne has previously stated that the company plans to produce about 56,000 electric vehicles annually by 2014, and Chrysler may base its initial model on the Fiat Doblo van.

The North American International Show 2010 will be held Jan. 11-24 at Detroit's Cabo Center.
