TORRANCE – Toyota Motor Corp. plans to produce a new small hybrid car to rival Honda's Insight that has reached the United States, according to Japan's Nikkei business newspaper, as reported by Bloomberg.

Toyota's U.S. headquarters would not comment on any specifics.

"Sometime early in the next decade, we plan to sell 1 million gas-electric hybrids per year. To accomplish this, we will launch as many as 10 new hybrid models between now and then in various global markets...We are always studying various types of hybrids, and of course, that includes small hybrids," according to a spokesperson for the automaker.
