KANSAS CITY, MO - Kansas City’s Water Services Department has received the fourth reimbursement from an $880,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation for compressed natural gas conversions to its vehicles, according to the Web site, www.kansascity.com.

Natural gas is domestic and is a cleaner fuel than gasoline. Until recently, it was also cheaper than gasoline, selling at a price that equates to about $1.98 per gallon.

The department began using natural gas vehicles in 1998 and now has more than 160 such vehicles in its fleet.

“The Department’s dedication to using alternative fuel vehicles demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the environment,” said Assistant City Manager John Franklin. “The Department will continue to implement green, environmentally friendly projects and programs.”
