The Hillsborough County, Fla., Property Appraiser’s office plans to update its fleet of hybrid-electric vehicles after successfully cutting fuel and maintenance costs. The agency first began electrification efforts in 2014, when it began a three-year lease of 22 Toyota Prius vehicles.

Within one fiscal year, fuel costs decreased from $73,233 to $12,496. Maintenance costs, which were covered through the lease, fell from $39,008 to $3,201, reports the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

As the lease term ends, Property Appraiser Bob Henriquez plans to lease 2017 Toyota Prius vehicles. He told the Tampa Bay Business Journal that the agency expects even more savings due to the newer vehicle’s increased fuel economy, though itcomes with a higher price tag.
