Contra Costa County, Calif., Fleet Services’ greening efforts led it to be named the Clean Air Champions 2016 by the East Bay Clean Cities Coalition. Fleet Services has aimed to reduce emissions by utilizing alternative fuel and sustainable power sources, cleaner fuels, and fuel-efficient vehicles, according to Fleet Manager Carlos Velasquez.

These projects included: expanding electric vehicle charging stations for fleet use and for the public; purchasing three hybrid Hino trucks; utilizing renewable diesel; and expanding the compressed natural gas (CNG), hybrid, and electric vehicle fleet. In addition, flexible work schedules have allowed employees to reduce vehicle miles traveled.

“One of the many multipronged strategies, in which we are on course to reach this goal, is by proactively taking full advantage of any and all incentives, credits or grants,” Velasquez said.
