Westport Innovations is developing a 3.8-liter engine that runs on natural gas or propane autogas for off-road or stationary equipment, the company announced with its quarterly earnings report.

The engine is based on Hyundai Motor Company's automotive engine and is targeted for use in construction equipment, forklifts, oil and gas, and power generation.

The engine will feature a multi-point fuel injection system designed and manufactured by Westport, and the Westport WP580 EMS. The engine is expected to meet EPA and CARB emissions standards, according to the company.
