MUNICH – BMW’s real-time traffic information provided in the company’s in-vehicle ConnectedDrive system is now accessible online via BMW Routes.

BMW ConnectedDrive customers can now plan their travel routes using any Internet-enabled device, such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets with Web browsing capabilities. Customers who have subscribed to the BMW Assist and BMW Online features offered in BMW ConnectedDrive will now have access to the traffic reports from BMW’s Real-Time Traffic Information (RTTI). The new service is available at www.bmw-routes.com.

BMW said the system offers a number of features designed to make route planning easier. Users can access real-time information about traffic flow, define route criteria, and request alternate routes. The system can take into account current traffic conditions and calculate the exact time of arrival. If traffic conditions change or worsen, the route planner can send an email and suggest an earlier departure time. This kind of update would allow a driver to keep working at the office or stay in a meeting longer without worrying when to leave.
