MUNICH – Although you don’t see too many M5s in commercial fleets, there are a few out there. First off, BMW improved fuel economy in this new model by 30 percent over the previous model. The 2012-MY M5 offers 28.5 MPG.

Performance and Handling

The new 2012-MY M5 features a 4.4L V-8 engine with the automaker’s M TwinPower Turbo package, which features the automaker’s Twin Scroll Twin Turbo, cross-bank exhaust manifold, High Precision Injection direct injection and Valvetronic variable valve control. Modes available include Efficient, Sport, and Sport Plus.

The automaker said the vehicle has Auto Start-Stop functionality that works with the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission. Chassis upgrades include electronically controlled dampers, M-specific Servotronic steering, Dynamic Stability Control for improved handling with the automaker’s M Dynamic Mode, and high-performance compound brakes.

Interior

The M5’s interior features a leather-covered center console, M sport seats, and an instrument cluster in black-panel technology. Standard interior features include Merino leather upholstery, four-zone automatic climate control, and ambient light, among various interior trim touches.
