HVAC Fleet Saves $120K in Fuel With Propane Autogas

A HVAC service fleet based in Utah has reduced its annual fuel spend by $120,000 and eliminated 62 tons of carbon-dioxide emissions by converting 29 gasoline-powered vehicles to propane autogas, according to its fuel supplier.

Superior Water and Air provides heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and water treatment services to the Salt Lake City area. The company’s 74 fleet vehicles each travel about 20,000 miles per year and are frequently used to haul equipment on trailers.

The company decided to begin adding propane-autogas vehicles about 13 months ago, according to Blue Star Gas.

"Our main motivation for switching to propane autogas was financial," said Mark Lambourne, president of Superior Water and Air. "We've seen substantial savings and estimate the company will see a return on investment 18 months after conversion."

Blue Star Gas installed Superior Water and Air’s 1,000-gallon on-site fueling tank and converted two Chevrolet Silverado pickups, one Ford E-350 box truck, and 25 full-sized Chevrolet 2500 cargo vans to propane autogas, the distributor said. Blue Star Gas will assist with future propane autogas vehicle conversions and provide ongoing safety training and technical support.
