Crazy Diamond Performance Inc. has received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approval to being producing a dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) Chevrolet Cruze for 2016.

The vehicle modifier's Cruze will use its ECODrive system with a CGE type-3 cylinder to give the vehicle a range of up to 320 miles of highway driving. The system has been designed for easy installation and durability, according to the company.

Crazy Diamond Performance is also developing a dedicated CNG or propane autogas TorqueDrive 6.8-liter heavy-duty engine. Initial tests have shown an 11-percent increase in fuel econonomy over the standard GM 6.0-liter engine and an improvement of 60 additional horsepower and 154 lb.-ft. of torque.

Lastly, the company is testing its ECODrive system paired with the 1.4-liter Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore for a possible September release.
