ADA, OK - The first tribally owned CNG station in Oklahoma has opened for business to fleet and private customers, Indian Country Today reported.

The station, owned by the Chickasaw Nation, is located at the Ada Travel Plaza in the city of Ada. The station is part of the tribe's effort to transition its fleet to CNG-fueled vehicles.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening took place May 11. Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby was joined by more than 100 tribal officials, citizens, employees and guests. During the event, Neal McCaleb, former Oklahoma secretary of transportation, demonstrated the fueling.

Previously, the closest CNG stations in the area were in Pauls Valley and Shawnee.
