The Arkadelphia Police Department's new environmentally friendly vehicles have made it the first "green" fleet in the state, according to police officials.

The department unveiled its ten new 2010 Toyota Camry hybrid police cars at a recent city board meeting, adding to the department's current fleet of 20, comprised of Ford Crown Victoria and Chevrolet Impala models.

The cars are expected to use 23 miles per gallon, compared to the 13 miles per gallon that current patrol cars get on the streets.

The Arkadelphia City Board of Directors voted in July 2008 to purchase the cars.
