TORRANCE, CA – Toyota officials have promised the production of a fuel cell vehicle by 2015, according to The Auto Review Examiner.

Last year, Toyota reportedly sold nearly 430,000 gas-electric hybrids worldwide. The manufacturer is also developing pure electric vehicles, delivering plug-in lithium-ion battery Prius models for fleet evaluation before the end of the year. The initial 500 will go to fleet operations for marketing and engineering evaluation. The batteries will be production line-produced at a joint venture plant that Toyota owns sixty percent of with Panasonic.

The all-new third-generation Prius achieves 50 mpg and the Lexus HS250h were revealed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last month.
