WASHINGTON - Honda is recalling more than 36,600 model-year 2006-2007 Civic Hybrid vehicles because of a potential problem involving the voltage converter.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the voltage converter that relays power from the integrated motor assist system to the vehicle's electrical components may be faulty. The voltage converter's failure could cause the headlights to turn off and the engine to stall, and could prevent the vehicle from being restarted. All this poses a safety risk.

Honda dealers will replace the voltage converter free of charge. Vehicle owners can reach Honda at (800) 999-1009; select option 4.
