Fleets can go online and create a comprehensive reduction plan by using several savings methods.

WASHINGTON – The Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC), a resource of the U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities program and administered by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, has developed a new tool to help fleets reduce petroleum consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Fleets can go online to the AFDC website and create a comprehensive reduction plan by using several savings methods. Users plug in their current annual petroleum use and then set a petroleum reduction goal by percentage and total gallons reduced.

If your fleet includes multiple vehicle types, add more vehicles to each of the following methods:

  • Replacing vehicles.
  • Using alternative fuels in existing vehicles.
  • Reducing idling.
  • Reducing mileage.
  • Driving efficiently.

The tool is available at www.afdc.energy.gov/prep.
