New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the state has signed a five-year contract with New York Power Authority (NYPA) to install 300 electric vehicle charging stations.

Under the agreement, NYPA will build the charging stations with the option to provide installation and networking services. The utility can also offer infrastructure and services to governmental customers at lower rates and favorable financing terms.

The contract is part of Gov. Cuomo's ChargeNY program to build a cleaner, more resilient energy system. ChargeNY hopes to install 3,000 charging stations by 2018 and achieve a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Once the contract is fulfilled, the state will have 1,600 charging stations installed under ChargeNY.
