Orange County, Fla., has approved a new refuse collection program that mandates haulers to begin using compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles within 18 months of contract execution. Collection vehicles fueled with CNG are quieter and generate less pollution, according to the county.

The new program switches the twice-weekly collection cycle to once weekly. Haulers will use automated refuse trucks with a mechanical arm for collection.

The Board of County Commissioners approved the new program on July 28. The changes take effect Jan 1, 2016.
